another rough week. The work deadlines have been killing me lately. And I’ve been watching a lot of soccer. The World Cup has captivated me this year. But I am still reading. I just don’t have enough brain power at the end of the day to write about things. But this is the last week of our work deadlines for a bit, so I am hoping to get some words down very soon. Because there are some good books out there, and I want to talk about them.
just finished: I did finish Abby Offsides this week, and it’s a lot of fun. I wish I could move to Liverpool and work for a major soccer team to get over a heartbreak, but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me. So at least I got to read all about it. This is a heartwarming romance, a perfect read for anyone who is enjoying the soccer these days and wants more. (It’s also great for anyone who doesn’t know anything about soccer. You’re right there with Abby, who was a baseball fan before moving to the other side of the world.)
currently reading: Beach Thriller by Jamie Day. It’s about a writer who needs a new book, and a really good one, for her next novel. But she has no ideas. She moves back to the beach house she went to as a kid and finds the novel she started when she was a teenager. But it’s about her sister, who didn’t make it through that summer. She decides she has to figure out what happened to her sister to know how to finish her novel, but there are those in town who want the secrets to stay buried. This one is getting crazy!
I’m also reading Idle in Provence, which isn’t out until September. But it’s so good! Eric Idle (Monty Python, Spamalot, etc, etc, etc) bought a house in Provence back when he was just in his 2os, before Provence became as popular as it is now. And he had to deal with all the renovations, often from far away. But there are stories about Provence, about family, about other celebrities, He has spilled some big tea, and it’s so much fun. And as happy as I am to get a chance to read this book ahead of time, I will be buying myself the audio book when it’s available, especially as he is narrating it himself.
up next: well, i still have a lot of books to catch up on this year. I need to work on that in July. Just, reading all the things I can! Happy summer reading!
