on the wings of a dream
Pomona Afton is back, and she is hosting her first gala for her nonprofit. After all those years she spent as one of the most popular partiers, the spoiled daughter of hotel magnates, Pomona has caught a killer, changed her ways, and wants to make a real difference. She is dating a teacher who likes to take the subway. She is working in her bakery, coming up with new pastries for weekly specials. She’s trying.
But when her gala ends with a dead man on a piece of art that had been created specially for her, Pomona realizes that she has to solve another murder in order for her charity to move forward. Especially since the deceased had offered her a building to use for her non-profit, and she wants to make sure that his widow doesn’t change her mind about her husband’s generosity.
She starts to investigate everyone who was at her party, but she has to be careful not to make anyone too angry, as she still wants their donations. Philanthropy is a delicate balance, especially when there is a killer in their midst. And then her parents interfere. Her boyfriend is distant after a party on a private island leaves him wondering how much they have in common. Her friends just want her to go out partying again with them. And her brother is angry at her and stirring up problems in the family.
But Pomona is smart. All those years of dealing with paparazzi and social media trolls and frenemies has taught her a little something about people. She’s determined to make her charity a success, and to do it her way. Even if that means she has to catch a killer. Even if that means she has to put herself in danger. Even if it means she could lose everything she’s worked so hard for.
Pomona Afton Can Totally Catch a Killer is the follow-up to Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder, and it is just as fun as the first one. Pomona is a smart, savvy woman in a challenging world, and even though she has a party-girl past, she has learned to use everything she has learned in any situation. She can even solve a murder while staying fashionable. I love the character of Pomona. I had so much fun hanging out with her, and I can’t wait to see what she gets up to next.
