Has anyone else been dealing with sinus issues, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes? It’s been a mess out there, allergen wise, and everyone I know has been suffering. Between that and tough work deadlines, I haven’t been able to write as much as I want. But I’m trying.

just finished: Meet the Newmans, about a television family waking up to modern life. It’s really good, layered, and with a strong feminist story line. Hopefully I can find more words tomorrow.

currently reading: Still working on The Jills, about the cheerleader for the Buffalo Bills who is trying to find her missing friend. This one is a little dark, and I think it’s going to get darker before the light.

I’m also reading The Best Little Motel in Texas, where a librarian inherits a motel from a great-aunt she never knew she had. She wants to sell, but she can’t without the permission of the locals. But the locals don’t want to change anything because the motel serves an important purpose for the town. And this buttoned-up librarian isn’t so sure she wants to become the town’s new madam. I have just started this one, and I have no idea where this is going to go, but I think it’s going to be pretty funny.

up next: I will be treating myself to the new Anthony Horowitz novel for workday lunches. A Deadly Episode is out in late April, the latest in the Hawthorne & Horowitz series. The first book in this series was The Word Is Murder, and that is being made into a movie. And when Hawthorne and Horowitz visit the set, the actor playing Hawthorne is killed. So was the actor the real victim, or was someone gunning for the real detective? I love these books, so I can’t wait to dive into this one!

Also up very soon is I Sleep in My Kitchen, a Palestinian-American chef’s comfort food. It looks like this has a wide variety of dishes, and I love diving into the kitchens of other cooks and see what inspires them, see what flavors they go to, and see what I can take and use in my own kitchen. I so love a cookbook! Many thanks to Clarkson Potter for sending me this early copy to review.
