work has been rough, so I end the day with no more words. I am trying to finish books earlier, so I have time to write before my brain shuts off for the day. Let’s see if I can pull it off this week.

just finished: new Ellie Alexander. The Whisking Hour is the latest in the Bakeshop Mystery series, Lance has a new play going on, not Shakespeare this time, and there are some issues. Perfect Crime is getting rave reviews, but there is some friction between the director and actors. So he decides to throw them a party, see if that loosens them up. And who to cater but everyone’s favorite baker Jules. Jules is pregnant with twins, but she agrees to take on the party, with a lot of help from her team. But when the director is killed shortly before the party, Jules knows that she’s going to have to help Lance solve a murder too.

currently reading: still reading The Jills, about the missing cheerleader for the Buffalo Bills. And I’m also reading Too Blessed to Stress, about Christian influencers. Honestly, I’m feeling a little prickly about this one so far, as people are talking online about my high school youth group and my high school as a cause of religious trauma. So I’m trying to set my personal feelings aside and see where this story goes.

I’m also reading Jenn McKinlay’s latest cozy, Booking for Trouble, about librarian Lindsay and her husband Sully. There is a council member who wants to close the library to cut costs (to save on his tax bill), so Lindsay decides to try expanding their services. She gets a boat and starts taking a book boat to the nearby islands twice a week with the help of Sully, who runs a water taxi service and knows all the locals. But when Lindsay finds one of her book boat patrons murdered, she needs to figure out what happened before she loses her funding, her library, and her job.

up soon: new Finlay Donovan! I got a sampler of it, just the first dozen chapters, and it’s fantastic. Vero has been arrested and is under house arrest at her mother’s house in Maryland. She’s been accused of stealing money from her sorority, and she had been running from those charges for many months. Now Finlay shows up to help her investigate, and things blow up. Nick is taking care of the kids at Finlay’s home, and she is absolutely blowing up on social media. I need the rest of this book! I’m sure Vero will be okay, but there will be so many more shenanigans in the mean time. And I want to read about them all!

Also, coming out in a couple of weeks is this one, The Antique Hunter’s Murder at the Castle. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway (thanks, Goodreads and Atria!). I haven’t read any of the Antique Hunters mysteries yet, but I have heard good things, so I am looking forward to diving in to this one.
