Just finished: the latest Bakeshop Mystery book from Ellie Alexander, The Pumpkin Vice Cafe, and finally Jules has her baby. But that’s not until the end (spoiler, sorry, but you had to know it was coming—she’s been preggers for a while). First, she helps Lance figure out who killed his wedding planner and why. It’s a lovely read, but it made me hungry. This time it wasn’t just about Torte and their offerings, which is hard enough to read about book after book without a bakery nearby, but this time there is also a local taco place and pizza place. I was almost drooling by the end of the book. Fair warning right there.
I also finished Trad Wife, a crazy thriller about a journalist writing a piece about a beloved internet star trad wife. It is bonkers. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one.
And I’m not sure I mentioned, which says something about where my head is these days, is that last week a new Louise Penny book was released. Miss Wolcott’s Ghost is now out in the world and ready to be devoured by all the Gamache fans. I haven’t read it yet, but I have heard good things. (No surprises there.)
Also out last week and waiting for my review is a new cookbook from Boston’s Joanne Chang, The Joy of Cookies. I’m making her snickerdoodles now, from her original cookbook Flour, and they are always perfect. I can’t wait to dig into her new cookbook.
And out next month is Simple Sugar, a new cookbook featuring Midwestern bakes, so it sounds like it’s right up my alley. Many thanks to Clarkson Potter for the copy that showed up at my front door.
