If you have a young child and love Chicago, then this is the book for you. It teaches numbers while counting the things that make the Windy City so great. There are colorful illustration that draw attention as the pages count down from 10 to 1.

There are ten Pretty Purple Flowers, nine Fast Baseballs, eight Deep=Dish Slices, seven Fishing Poles, six Bright Red Birds, five Big Gusts of Wind, four Jumbo Hot Dogs (Chicago dogs, of course), three Fluttering Butterflies, two Sailing Boats, and one Windy City. And while the design is simple, it is eye-catching, and the drawings that correlate with the numbers are big enough so that they are easy to count.

This small book is perfect to teach counting and geography at the same time. If you live in Chicago, or not too far, or are planning a trip there to visit family or just as a family vacation, then this book can help teach about what the city has to offer. As part of a series that teaches counting through many states and a couple of cities, Count on Chicago is a sweet tribute and a teaching tool in one.

I especially enjoyed the illustrations, as they are colorful and whimsical. And they stay true to the city, with the hot dog featuring the iconic ingredients of the Chicago dog, and the pizza is deep-dish. Count on Chicago would be great a a gift for new parents or caregivers who love the Windy City.

Egalleys for Count on Chicago were provided by Gibbs Smith through Edelweiss, with many thanks.
