currently reading: this is the week that it’s happening! Marble Hall Murders, the third book in the Susan Ryeland series, is out in the U.S. this Tuesday. I am taking my time reading it, but I am loving every page. It’s so fantastic.
I’m also still listening to Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case. Maybe I’ll get to talk about this tomorrow? I hope.
I’m also reading Bad Nature by Ariel Courage. It’s about a young woman who gets a devastating medical diagnosis and decides to make her dream come true finally. She gets in her car and heads out west, to find and kill her father. This one is dark, and the main character is clearly vindictive. But she is also brutally honest, and the way this book is written, it’s so hard to put down. This story is cravably readable. If you’re a fan of dark humor, add this one to your TBR.
up next: this week is the release of the new Alex North, The Man Made of Smoke, and last week I scored a copy of the audio book. I bet this one will be creepy, like The Whisper Man. We’ll see if I can take the creepiness this week.
But if you’re craving more of a romantic beachy read, there is a new novel from Annabel Monaghan coming in a couple of weeks. Her books are smart and comforting and about characters who feel real, like they could be your neighbors. It’s a Love Story is out May 27, so put this one on your summer reading list.
We got to see Alton Brown live and in person a little over a week ago, and since I loved his book of essays so much, I had to grab one that he signed at the show. If you get a chance to see him live, grab it. If not you may have to settle for reading the book (or listening to the audio, which he narrates). Well worth it!
