wow, I went down hard. I had a UTI, and I think I may have had a respiratory virus on top of that, so I had a rough week. Two days I barely got out of bed at all. There were some days I didn’t read. I tried, but my brain was down for the count. Anyway, I’m getting back on track, and I’m ready to bring the reviews again this week. Although last week, I did manage to write up my thoughts on the new Finlay Donovan. I do love these characters, and I’m so happy it ended with a link to the next episode in this adventure. I was worried for a minute or two that everything was going to get too wrapped up. But no, Elle Cosimano is thinking of her next book, and I’m already ready for it.

currently reading: out this week, I’ve started on All the Other Mothers Hate Me, about a mom who had a moment in a girl band when she was younger and is ready to try again at the music industry. But first, she has a problem. Her son’s bully disappears on a school trip, and her son is blamed. She needs to figure out what really happened to clear his name. Florence Grimes has a strong voice, and it’s a lot of fun getting to know her.

I’ve also started Goddess Complex, out this week too. It’s about a woman who took a medical leave from her graduate school program to recover from her divorce. But now she’s a little lost, and her ex-husband is missing. As Sanjana tries to find him, she is bombarded with messages aimed at Millennial women, and she has to figure out what is the right path for her despite being pulled in many different directions. This one definitely has some satire vibes to it. Watch for people to be talking about it for book clubs. There will be lots to discuss.

I’m also reading Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, because it was a new year and life is stressful. I love these books so much!

I’m also reading Something in the Walls, a creepster that came out a couple of weeks ago. A young woman, just out of grad school, helps a journalist investigate a teenage girl who says there are ghosts in the family home. Lots of chills. I can’t wait to find out what’s going on in that house.

up next: I did get this gem from Henry Holt. If You Love It, Let It Kill You is about a woman who has a crazy existential crisis when she finds out her ex-husband wrote her into his novel, and the picture he paints of her is not very flattering. Watch for this one coming mid-July, or pre-order now.
