just finished: Bridget Jones’s Diary on audio. It was a rough week, and I needed my comfort read. Literally as soon as I finished it, I rolled right on into Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. I am anticipating another difficult week. Aside from the political insanity, they are predicting a couple of snowstorms (far lighter than what we got before, but still disruptive) and colder temperatures. I am not excited about that. But in happier news: there are books.
currently reading: Meadowbrook Murders, a YA thriller about a double murder at a prestigious high school. It’s told in alternating viewpoints, between Amy, the senior girl who was roommates with the murdered girl and Liz, the girl who wants to be a journalist and knows that if she can break the story, it could set her up to get into the college she wants. It could make her career. But Liz has to figure out how to balance being a cutthroat journalist and being a decent human being, especially once Amy is moved into her room.
I’m also reading Snowbirds, about a woman who is facing questions about the second half of her life after her husband goes missing on a solo hike. Kim and Grant have a good marriage, but after their kids leave home and they give up the cold Midwestern winters (so tempting right now!) to move to Palm Springs, Grant struggles to find his footing. He takes up hiking and finds friends and buys gear. But when he fails to return one day, Kim has to face the questions from the police, which starts her thinking through their decades together and what she wants for her life next.
up next: it’s the week of Valentine’s Day, so prepare for rom coms. There are some good ones coming out this week. Also, I came home one day to find this beauty waiting for me, a lovely surprise from my boyfriend. I adore Jurgen Klopp, and I can’t wait to read this one. I flipped through and looked at the photos and quotes from people all over the soccer world. I am excited to do a deeper dive, especially to that forward, written by Kloppo himself.
