currently reading: I’ve been reading The Real Pink Panther, and it’s just so much fun. But it’s also sad, as Sellers in particular had a lot of mental and physical issues. But reading about how these movies came together is fascinating, and I encourage other Pink Panther movie fans to check this one out when it comes out.
I’m also reading You Are Fatally Invited, a fascinating rom com about a bunch of thriller writers invited to a writing retreat by a bestselling but reclusive author. They are on an island alone, and (can you guess?), they get killed off one by one. But is it real, or is it an elaborate trick? This one is heating up.
up next: more rom coms coming out this week, starting with an unusual take. I got an offer of an early copy of this one, and I knew I had to accept based on the title alone: I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com. How could anyone pass that up? It’s by Kimberly Lemming, who also wrote I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf, which I was not aware of but now I have to go look up. This week is going to get crazy!
On a more dignified note, I won this one in a Goodreads giveaway from Pantheon. A Murder for Miss Hortense is a mystery starring a retired nurse who is not afraid of anyone. When she was younger, she’d helped to found a group of Black investors (she’s Jamaican), who turned on her and kicked her out. But a dead body shows up at the home of one of the investors, and Miss Hortense knows a long-buried secret is about to come back to bite them. This one sounds like lots of fun, and I look forward to reading it.
