just finished: Kiss Her Goodbye, the latest Frankie Elkin book from Lisa Gardner. It’s a crazy book, with lots of twists. When I’m finally able to wrap my head around it, I’ll write it up. It’s beautiful but also intense and emotional.

I’ve also finished The Dysfunctional Family’s Guide to Murder, which was fun. An Australian teenager puts her skills up against a rash of family secrets, including finding out who killer her grandmother. It’s fun, and I think teenage Agatha Christie and Scooby Doo fans will enjoy it.

currently reading: I’m listening to the audio book of Ellie Hayes and the Himbos. I resisted this book, just because of the name. I still think it’s not a great title. But I am loving the book. Ellie is a young woman who is struggling with her health. She has vague symptoms that could be stress, or it could be the start of a neurological disorder. Her boyfriend can’t deal with her health concerns, so he breaks up with her, and she has to find a new place to live and a new job as quickly as possible. She checks on a room to rent and finds three young men, all gym rats, who would be her new roommates. Ellie decides to take a chance on the room, since the guys are all very sweet. And the job at the gym they go to would give her something to do while she waits to hear about her potential condition. And she can use the gym to move her body while she still can. I am actually loving this book. The characters are sweet and smart, and the writing is lovely. I’m only about a third of the way through, but keep an eye out for this one. It’s really good.

up next: I don’t know for sure. Whatever I can find that will hold my attention. That’s been an issue lately. But I am grateful to Henry Holt for sending an early copy of this one, Bad Asians, out mid-February of next year. It’s about a group of friends who graduated college during the recession of 2008 and had to figure out how to live. I look forward to getting a chance to read it.
