just finished, because my schedule is relaxing and my stress is lowering so I can do that sort of thing: Bake by Paul Hollywood, which is fantastic and definitely a book you’ll want if you’re a fan of his, of GBBO, or just of British baking in general. It’s coming mid-July, but you can preorder now. I did! I also listened to Sue Grafton’s D Is for Deadbeat, which is a crazy mystery. A man comes into Kinsey Millhone’s office to hire her to deliver a cashier’s check for him. Kinsey has some doubts about the job but she takes it anyway. Then the man’s payment check bounces, he goes missing, and then he turns up dead. They journey she takes to find the truth is crazy, but not as much as that ending.
currently reading: There’s a rom com that came out last month called As Seen on T.V. A New York journalist goes to a small town to investigate when there is a real estate mogul planning a huge development. She expects to find the charming, close-knit town residents banding together to stop him, like you might find in any Hallmark movie, but that is not what she finds. It’s sweet and funny, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes. I’m also reading In Her Boots by KJ Dell’Antonia, who wrote The Chicken Sisters. This one is about a woman who is known on the internet as the world traveling badass Modern Pioneer Girl. But when Rhett’s asked to reveal her identity on a morning television show, she finds that she can’t make it onto the stage, and her lifelong best friend fills in for her. Obviously, hijinks ensue. But also grief, because Rhett’s beloved grandmother just passed, which is why she left the ranch she’d been at in Central America to come back to New York. I’m not too far in yet, but it’s so fantastic. I wish time would stop so I could just read this one. It’s so amazing. And I have not yet read Chicken Sisters, but I’m sure now that I want to. Soon.
up next: I’ve got a couple of audio books that are coming out Tuesday which I am really excited about. There is Acts of Violet by Margarita Montimore, who wrote Oona Out of Order, which I adored. And there is NSFW, about a young woman in Hollywood. It’s supposed to be really funny (my book kryptonite), and I have been itching to dive in! I also scored a PDF of this lovely book, a new biography of Nora Ephron. It includes the thoughts and memories of people she worked with through the years. I remember reading (listening to) Martin Short’s I Must Say, and the stories he told about Nora brought tears to my eyes. He’s included in this book, and I can’t wait to hear what others say about being with and working with Nora Ephron. I am really looking forward to this one!
