happy summer reading! This Tuesday is a monster release day for summer books, so next weekend will be the perfect time to head to the bookstore to stock up. And then the next week there are even more, so you’ll have to go back again. Okay, so maybe just plan on going to your bookstore a lot over the next few weeks, months, years, because why wouldn’t you?
Seriously for a second, I am still dealing with some serious family issues, so I will do the best I can this month to review good books for you, but I will be struggling to keep up. But I have been reading this weekend, between errands.
currently reading: The Favor, which just gets twistier the further I read. This is a domestic thriller filled with the unexpected, and I look forward to see how it ends. I’m also still working on the audio book for The Latecomer. And again with the twists (but I did expect that from Jean Hanff Korelitz after last year’s The Plot. I’m also reading My Mechanical Romance, a YA rom com about a robotics team. So far it’s exceptional, with strong characters in Teo, the son of a driven tech CEO who has equally high standards for herself, and Bel, a transfer student who has the smarts to be on the robotics team, as her ideas have creativity and grace to them as well as being workable. But her old school wasn’t as strong on STEM classes, so she’s having to do a lot of catch-up just to be able to get the vocabulary right. I genuinely love these characters, and if you’re a Battlebots fan/YA romance fan, then you might get a big kick out of this one too.
up next: I honestly don’t know. I’m hoping that after 2 straight weeks of visiting emergency rooms and hospitals, next weekend I can just stay home—we can all just stay home and be healthy—and get some good reading done. However, William Morrow was kind enough to send me an early copy of Vacationland by Meg Mitchell Moore, and I am looking forward to it. A couple of years ago, I got an early copy of her Two Truths and a Lie, and it was really good. So I am hoping for the time to dive into this one really soon!
