currently reading: Right now I’m reading the latest by Darcey Bell, All I Want. Her A Simple Favor was a big-time movie with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick several years ago. In this one, a couple buy a big house in New York. It used to be a rehab facility for Broadway stars, so there is a stage. It all needs to be renovated, but for pregnant Emma, being out of the city is lovely. Even though her husband Ben spends a lot of time in the city, working on his next Broadway project, she likes to stay out in the country. But as she learns more about the history of the house, she finds herself becoming disquieted by some of the rumors. Will everything end okay, or will their decision to buy this house turn out to be disastrous? I’m also reading Murder at a Scottish Social, where the owner of a local yarn shop steps in to help investigate when her friend is accused of killing the queen bee of their golf wives community. Who doesn’t love a book where the queen bee dies? And add in a Scottish setting, and I am all in. I’ve also just started Bright Young Things, which comes out Tuesday. It’s a stylish retelling of The Tempest, and I can’t wait to see where it goes (I mean, I’ve read The Tempest, so I know, but with a retelling I’m still expecting some nice surprises along the way. Also, it’s been a long time since I read The Tempest.) Oh, and if you’re an M.C. Beaton fan like me, look for her latest Hamish Macbeth, Death of a Green-Eyed Monster out this Tuesday!
up next: I am excited to say that I scored a galley of the latest from Casey McQuiston, who brought us Red, White, and Royal Blue and One Last Stop. This year’s megahit is called I Kissed Shara Wheeler, and it’s out in early May. Also, Scholastic has sent me a book or two, and I’m super excited about this one, out in early April.
