just finished: I’ve been struggling with some anxiety lately, so I was needing something to counteract that. And what is better for that than Anne Lamott? She has a brand new book out last week, Dusk, Night, Dawn, but I haven’t bought it yet. So I went to one of my older audio books of hers, Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers. It’s not very long, but she narrates it herself, so it feels that much more honest and heartfelt with her voice underlining those words. I recommend all of Anne Lamott for anyone else struggling right now. She is lovely.
currently reading: I’ve been listening to Joe Kenda’s new Killer Triggers, and its fantastic. There are so many fascinating stories in it, some that have made me laugh out loud and others that made me want to cry. But it’s all him, at his most Kenda, and in his own voice. Fans of Homicide Hunter should definitely put this one their list! I’m also reading Fatal Fried Rice, the newest in Vivien Chien’s Noodle Shop mystery. These are lots of fun, with main character Lana Lee running around solving murders when she’s not running her family’s Chinese restaurant. I’m also getting deeper and deeper into Andrew McCarthy’s Brat, which is filled with so many surprises. I am loving it so much! I also started reading The Castle School (for Troubled Girls), and it’s fantastic. Twelve girls are sent to a boarding school to work through their issues (each has a different one, like anorexia, cutting, ADHD, truancy, and grief), and it’s their relationships that make this book so compelling. Loving it!
up next: Kensington was kind enough to surprise me with a copy of Love at First, by Kate Clayborn, who also wrote Love Lettering. Love Lettering was amazing, about a calligrapher who found her place in the world by walking through New York and looking at all the signs . . . and of course, falling in love. I can’t wait to find time to dive into this one!
