So I realized about a week and a half ago I missed the date I was supposed to check in and see where I was. I’ve attached that to the bottom of this week’s snapshot. I have been reading, but things have come up this year that have made things more challenging, so I may not meet all my goals. Although, the year isn’t over yet. I still have time . . .

just finished: nothing. It was that kind of weekend.

currently reading: Nanny Needed, by Georgina Cross. A restaurant worker applies for a high end nanny job, and you won’t believe what happens when she lands the job (after she signs the extensive contract/NDA, of course). This family is bananas! This is the week that Brent Spiner’s Fan Fiction is being released, and I’ve been waiting for weeks to talk about that one! It’s hilarious! If you’re a Star Trek: TNG fan, you’ll definitely want to check it out!

up next: Cookbooks! I have some galleys for good cookbooks coming up, including Baking with Dorie (Dorie Greenspan), Mooncakes and Milk Bread (Kristina Cho), More Veggies Please! (Nikki Dinki), Soup Club (Caroline Wright), and I just received a copy of Pasta (Missy Robbins and Talia Baiocchi) from Ten Speed Press, and I can’t wait to dig into them all! There are lots of good cookbooks coming out this year, so check your favorite bookstore or book website to find out more titles, and stay tuned here to see how many I can read by the end of the year!

I have set myself some reading goals for 2021. Some of those goals are about how many books I want to read (I set my Goodreads goal for 225), or listen to (60 audiobooks). But other goals are to finally read classics that I missed when I was younger (Little Women, Jane Eyre), to read a Shakespeare play (Othello or King Lear, because I am less familiar with those), and to read Alexander McCall Smith’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, because while I’ve read many of his books through the years, I have not ready any of his set in Botswana. I will try to check in quarterly and see how far I’ve gotten. Here’s my full list:

  1. Read 150 books through NetGalley. (125/150)

  2. Read 50 books from Edelweiss. (7/50)

  3. Read 50 publisher arcs/Goodreads giveaways. (35/50)

  4. Listen to 60 audio books. (11/60)

  5. Read the following books: Little Women

  6. Jane Eyre

  7. Howard’s End

  8. Othello or King Lear

  9. The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency

  10. Cause Celeb

  11. The Buried Giant or Never Let Me Go

  12. Fever Pitch
