just finished: nothing. A stressful week and a busy weekend kept me away from the books. Can’t wait to get my reading headspace back!
currently reading: I am listening to All the Devils Are Here, and I am all in for this one! Set in Paris instead of Three Pines, it lets us in on Gamache’s past, his relationships with his kids, his parents and grandmother, and it is so fascinating to get so much of his backstory! And there are enough mentions of those at home (Ruth and her duck, especially) to keep me from getting too homesick for Quebec. It comes out Tuesday, so clear out your current reading, finish what you’re reading now, because you’ll want to read this one as soon as you can! I’m also reading an adorable kids’ book called The Candy Mafia. It’s Willy Wonka meets Sam Spade, and if you have a smart middle grader, you’ll definitely want to grab this one for her! Or him. (And then grab it and read it yourself—it’s that good!) I’m also about halfway through My Life in Plants by Katie Vaz. She wrote The Escape Manual for Introverts and Make Yourself Cozy, both fun and informational with lots of whimsical illustrations. This new one is a memoir, as she tells her story through the plants that have held meaning for her through the years. And again, more fun and whimsical illustrations throughout!
up next: September 8 has a lot of great new releases, including the new Ruth Ware, One by One! John Cleese has a short book on creativity! A new book from Caroline B. Cooney, Before She Was Helen! And a new cookbook, Big Love Cooking! It’s a good thing next weekend is a 3-day weekend. I need the reading time!
