I know that I have been less consistent about posting on this side of the page, and that's on purpose. I want this to be more about the books and less about me. But that being said, I'm going to start doing a weekly post based on a segment of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour: What is Making Me Happy This Week. So here is wimmhtw:

1. I feel like I have to start with the obvious, Pop Culture Happy Hour. This is a weekly NPR show/podcast that watches and reports on the movies and tv shows that I don't always have time to check out. They keep me informed and entertained on popular culture and seem like people I'd love to hang out with every once in awhile. And since I don't actually get to hang out with them, at least I get to listen to the pod every week. That makes me happy.

2. The new ABC show Speechless. It's about a family with 3 kids, one of whom is in a wheelchair and struggles to communicate. This is a fantastic show! Despite Minnie Driver outclassing everyone else in the cast, it's a great ensemble with well-drawn family relationships and clever, honest dialogue. This could have been a heavy-handed after-school special of a sitcom, but instead it's a show done with warmth and wit and intelligence. Highly recommended!

3. We had some friends over for dinner last night, and we had a great time and super-delicious food. My boyfriend made a lemon spaghetti that was absolutely divine. And then we played Cyanide and Happiness's new game Joking Hazard, and we laughed until we cried. (Warning: the game is not for kids; think Cards Against Humanity but with comics instead of words.) I think it's fair to say a good time was had by all. That made me very happy.
