Starting Wednesday of last week, I didn’t read much at all, aside from my positive Covid test. It was one of those weeks where I laid in bed and watched television. I didn’t even feel up to audio books. But I’m doing better and even felt up to reading a couple of chapters earlier. That was encouraging. Because I have a lot of reading to get caught up on.

If you’re a cozy fan, this week is for you. New Jenn McKinlay, A Merry Little Murder Plot, and new M.C. Beaton (thanks to R.W. Green), new Agatha Raisin Killing Time. Also out this week is a book that lots of people are talking about, Jason Rekulak’s thriller The Last One at the Wedding. I think you’ll see this one a lot of best of lists and in celebrity book clubs. If you’re a fan of comedic thrillers, watch for Hate Follow and I Did Something Bad, which book look delicious!

And speaking of delicious, beside Easy Weeknight Dinners that I talked about last Sunday (out this Tuesday), there is also Rebel Girls Cook, a cookbook full of delicious recipes, cooking tips, and inspirational women for girls who are wanting to take the kitchen by storm. There are lots of photos to help young cooks learn the techniques they need, and the recipes include comfort favorites as well as international flavors for them to sample. I wish I’d had something like this when I was a kid learning to cook. I remember being taught how to read a recipe, but knife skills I didn’t know anything about until I was much, much, much older. I feel like I’d be a more confident cook now if I had a cookbook like Rebel Girls Cook when I was a kid. Plus, I would have loved to be called a “Rebel Girl.” (Btw, there are many other Rebel Girl books, full of inspiring stories about people who have changed the world and created art, but this is their first cookbook. Check out all the Rebel Girl books for your favorite kid!)
