currently reading: I spent the weekend reading the new Mhairi McFarlane. It’s a bit of a departure from her usual rom coms, but it’s amazing. It’s about a relationship, but it’s also about a larger group of friends who had worked together at Waterstones back when they were at uni, and how those friendships have grown and changed through the years. It is bringing me a lot of Peter’s Friends vibes, a movie I loved, so that makes me happy. Between Us has depth and a level of social understanding that is truly impressive.

I’ve also started reading The English Experience, the newest novel about professor/department chair Jason Fitger, who we first met in Dear Committee Members, which won Julie Schumacher the Thurber Prize for American Humor. I’m not too far in yet, but I’m already loving it. I love this character, and I can’t wait to see what happens when he takes a group of students to England for a short semester abroad.

up next: Catch Me If You Candy by Ellie Alexander. Time to head back to Torte, for delicious foods and a side of murder.
