just finished: earlier today, I finished re-reading one of my tween favorites, The Pistachio Prescription by Paula Danziger. She was one of my favorite writers when I was younger, and this one was a classic. And last week I finished listening to No One Will Miss Her, a dark thriller about a brutal murder and its aftermath. I’m still sorting out my thoughts on it, but I will add my review here soon.
currently reading: The One comes out Tuesday, and it is a scalding story about being a contestant on a show very much like The Bachelor. It feels a little underwrittern, but it’s too soon for me to decide if I like that or not. I may feel like it works for this character, but I’m still getting to know her. I’m also reading A Spoonful of Time, a kid’s book about time traveling to memories through the power of food. Maya’s grandmother has moved in with her and her mother, and her dementia is getting worse. But Maya is determined to make the most of the time she has left and cooks with her. And then she finds out that her grandmother has the ability to use the sensory images of food to travel to the past, and Maya goes with her. It’s a lovely way to watch them connect, and there are recipes for delicious sounding Korean food. So much fun! I’m also still reading Bitches in Bonnets, which is fascinating, and listening to Blind Spots.
up next: I may not be able to read this one for awhile, but one of my favorite podcasters has written a memoir, and it comes out in September. Patrick Hinds of True Crime Obsessed has written Failure is Not Not an Option, and I can’t wait to read it. We saw him on his traveling book tour lately (hilarious! Go if you can!), and the cost of the ticket includes the book, so when it’s out in September, it will show up on my doorstep. But I am, of course, hoping to snag an early copy to review. He read us a chapter, and it was hilarious. I can’t wait to read the whole thing!
