and now a mystery from our sponsor . . .
Tobi Tobias is on cloud nine. She is up for the award for Best Overall Ad Campaign in the prestigious St. Louis Advertising Agency Awards. It's the biggest ad award in town, and although she has only been running her own agency for a short time, Tobi has been noticed and nominated, and she can't wait for the ceremony to see what happens.
And what happens there is not good. It's not all bad, as her teenaged photographer managed to break through stereotypes and win an award for himself. But while Tobi gets to enjoy her fabulous dress, the extra attention from her boyfriend Andy, and some mediocre steak, she doesn't win the award. Although that may be good news for her, since the woman who did win, Deidre Ryan, went up to get her award, and the special staircase erected for the winner to climb fell down and the stage lights came down on top of her.
But right before the stage came down, Tobi noticed something odd. The screen that was supposed to be showing Deidre's award-winning ad campaign was just starting to show the ad campaign of a different nominee instead. Was it just an honest mistake, or was it something more ominous?
While Tobi and her family and friends are very happy that she didn't win the award--that she was able to walk away from the ceremony while poor Deidre didn't--Tobi can't leave the mystery alone. She has to figure out what happened that night. Did someone else really win that award? And was the booby-trap for that person instead? Who would do such a thing to a fellow advertising professional?
And just as important, how can she stop her beloved grandfather from falling for her annoying neighbor with the irritating dog?
Tobi has her work cut out for her in And Death Goes To . . ., Laura Bradford's third novel in the charming Tobi Tobias mystery series. Tobi and her friends and colleagues use their intelligence and humor to face the challenging situation they find themselves in. Even parrot Rudder would find some moments to snort at in this fun cozy. Delightful characters, a compelling story, an interesting setting, and lots of information about working in advertising. A sweet treat for mystery lovers!
